Aberdeen Country Club

Highway 9, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582

Formerly known as Buck Creek, this course has benefited from an infusion of cash and attention from the Myrtle Beach National organization. The 27-hole facility now offers pristine conditions and a challenging set of holes near the Waccamaw River. Designed by Tom Jackson, Aberdeen may not be “royal” like its Scottish counterpart (although the marketers play that connection for all its worth), but will provide an enjoyable day of golf amid the cypress pines and tupelo hardwoods. Look for extensive mounding (to help keep balls from bouncing out of play), wide landing areas (to benefit those of us who hit it wide a lot) and slick bent grass greens (to ensure three-putts after we’ve avoided all the other troubles!) Of the three nines, the Meadows is probably the most friendly, while the Highlands nine ends with three strong holes, including two long par fours in a row. But no matter the order in which they’re played, all three will engage your full attention. Scottish or not, this version of Aberdeen is a fine day’s outing.

HOW TO GET THERE
From US 17 north of Myrtle Beach, turn left on Highway 9. The golf course will be on the right just past the Intracoastal Waterway bridge.
