This facility is one of the handful of newer courses built in the attempt to upgrade Myrtle Beach’s image away from being the bargain basement of golf destinations to a place that offers more upscale, and challenging, golf courses.
Designed by Ron Garl, the Tradition Club fits the bill. The facility is top-notch, with a modern and well-outfitted clubhouse and pro shop, an excellent practice facility and a fine course.
Garl is known for his use of sandy “waste areas,” and they are present throughout the course. There is a by-now required island-green par three hole, but another par three hole surrounded by the sandy sea may be the harder. In addition to the wastelands of sand, the course is hemmed in by the Carolina pines, and seven holes are bordered by the native wetland marshes.
You won’t want to miss the chance to warm up at the course’s magnificent practice facility. More than 43,000 square feet of space has been devoted to the range, with covered hitting areas, multiple target greens, areas for chipping and sand practice and a four-leaf clover of a practice green. You may want to forget about playing and just spend a day hitting balls!
Nevertheless, The Tradition Club’s appeal lies in its excellent facilities that make a traveling golfer feel like he’s playing at his own private club, or, better yet, visiting one that’s even classier than his own.
