Although this course is located in Fort Mill, South Carolina, it’s considered one of the most outstanding daily fee courses in the greater Charlotte, N.C. area, as it’s just a ten minute drive from the city down Interstate 77.
Designed in the mid-1990s by architect Ron Garl, this facility offers a wonderful golf course and a well-run operation. Tee times are spaced 10 minutes apart, and reservations are usually required. But it’s worth the effort to get onto this fine track.
Built within a residential development, and just down the road from a major amusement park, this is still serious golf. There is plenty of water, encroaching trees, lots of bunkers and some wildly undulating greens.
The course gives notice of what’s to come early: the par-three second hole of 208 yards has a winding creek running down the center and curling around to the left of the green. The 8th is a demanding par-four of 467 yards, even downhill, with a narrowing fairway and a well-bunkered green.
On the back nine, there is more fun to be had! The 11th is just 344 yards, but there is water everywhere. The short 14th is the same, except water is replaced by acres of sand with but a narrow fairway. Trouble is everywhere on the three closers, with the last perhaps the easiest at “just” 442 yards.
Excellent service, one of the best practice facilities anywhere and a welcoming clubhouse facility round out the picture at Regent Park.
