Blackmoor Golf Club

PO Box 2010, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578

Gary Player designed this course on a site that was once the Longwood Plantation, situated alongside the Waccamaw River. And the terrain is evocative of the Old South with its moss-covered oaks, misty fields and dark woods. At twilight, it’s not unusual to see deer come out of the woods, or perhaps a wild turkey. In this tranquil setting, Player carved out 18 wonderful golf holes. He threw in a few blind shots, along with some severe doglegs, but for the most part you can find your way through the forest with ease. Player never punishes golfers, but does insist on honest good shots to make low scores. For example: there are not too many water holes at Blackmoor (just those narrow, tree-lined fairways) until one gets to the final stretch. Sixteen is a sharp dogleg with a lurking lake, 17 a long par-three through the forest and the last a strong par-five with a pond guarding the green. Play well and you can relax in the lovely clubhouse! Myrtle Beach may be growing in leaps and bounds, but at Blackmoor, all is still peace and quiet.
